The Grinch came to Oakthorpe! Luckily the Reception children chose to write him letters to convince him of the true meaning of Christmas.
Some of our Christmas learning. Decorating the tree, Christmas maths, making Mount Crumpit and some lovely observational drawings.
Wow some amazing progress for our Great Fire of London hot writes. Here are some cold writes and hot writes to show how hard the children have been working.
The Great Fire of London started in a bakery on Pudding Lane. Warburtons came in to tell us about how their bakery first started and we learnt how to make bread.
We learnt all about the Fire of London. We looked at how wood burnt quickly and how fire could not get through brick. We learnt about how to keep safe with fire and cooked marshmallows. We learnt about how fire safety was different in 1666 and lined up from the pretend River Thames passing on water to quench the fire.
We then started to learn about Paddington Bear and made sandwiches and marmalade for him. We learnt lots about London and did some fantastic independent learning finding out about the landmarks.
A Poppy Poem by one of our Year Ones.
A Poppy Poem created by one of our Year 1 children.
We started off our term thinking about WW1. We planted Poppy Seeds and Year 1 created beautiful Poppy Poems. We painted Poppy stones to be found by everyone to remember soldiers that have died.
