It was an absolute privilege to take children from across the school to a range of places of worship as part of our RE week. The children in years 4,5 and 6 visited a Jewish synagogue, a Buddhist temple and found out about Humanism during their trip to Leicester. Reception and Year 1 visited Measham Church to find out about Baptism and the features of a church.
The children were incredibly respectful and there were some lovely comments from children. One boy in Year 5 was really trying to unpick their understanding of Enlightenment during their time at the Buddhist temple and how it is like having peace inside you. Another Year 5 boy had really developed his understanding of what it means to treat people from different faiths equally and fairly.
The children have been looking back and rewriting their Be-leaves to place on Oakthorpe’s Tree of Beliefs. Here are some of the examples from children across the school…
‘I believe that you must always be honest and kind, respect the people around you and never be scared to be yourself’
‘I believe that if someone does something wrong, you should still forgive them.’
‘I believe that nobody should be treated differently or better than others.’
